Empowering Resilience in the Family

Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyse the mechanisms for building resilience in the family as a dynamic system, taking into account the role of emotional bonds and protective factors. The authors focus on presenting how intra-family processes and external support systems influence the family’s ability to adapt and cope with crises. The article analyses the key factors influencing the building of resilience in family systems, highlighting the role of parental bonds and social support. The authors refer to attachment theory, which indicates that secure parent-child bonds are fundamental to the ability to cope with difficulties in later life. Further, based on Froma Walsh’s concept, the article presents resilience as a dynamic process, taking into account interactions within the family and with the environment, including access to social and economic resources. The numerous research studies presented indicate that families with strong emotional bonds and effective communication are better able to cope with crises. It is also highlighted that support from a wide social circle, including distant relatives, helps to strengthen resilience. The article emphasises the importance of a systems approach in understanding family resilience, focusing on the interdependencies between individuals and the environment.
