Parental attitudes of imprisoned mothers and fathers


Abstract

In the article the analysis of parental attitudes mothers and fathers serving a penalty of imprisonment has been made. Attitudes of 50 women and 50 men who are the parents of children up to 18 years of age were compared. They brought their stay in the penitentiary. In the Questionnaire Parental Attitudes M. Plops convicted fathers achieved high scores in the sub-requirements, while low scores in the attitudes of autonomy and protection. In turn, convicted mothers have a clear tendency to show overprotective and inconsistent attitude towards children. The perpetrators of crime against the family compared to the parents convicted of common crimes are significantly less likely to accept their children and are significantly more demanding towards their offspring. The results of the study clearly indicate that respondents unsuitably fulfill parent roles, which is likely to be related to interpersonal relationships in their families. It has been suggested that penitentiary work with convicted parents should provide a comprehensive and systematic diagnosis of the attitudes of parental prisoners and raise their pedagogical awareness, for example by developing the ability to communicate with the child, the proper selection of punishments and prizes, showing the feeling
